Film Frak: The Podcast#26: SORRY TO BOTHER YOU

Welcome to Film Frak Podcast 26. Fear not Frak listeners, after a month’s hiatus we are back and all charged up for some serious movie talk with episode 26. One of us also found the time to perfect making that instantly iconic clicking noise that ties in with one of this month’s entries. (You will have to listen to the show to find out which one.)

Since you last tuned in we’ve managed to check off 27 titles from the 2018 watch lists. Some of which we would just rather not talk about so we grabbed some piano wire and went for the jugular leaving the top 10 cinema releases that left an impression in the month of July.

What’s remains is a genre hopping concocti...

Won’t You Be My Neighbor

Director: Morgan Neville

Starring: Fred Rogers, Joanne Rogers, Betty Aberlin, Francois Clemmons, David Newell

A review by Jon Caron

Won’t You Be My Neighbor affected me far more than any other film I can think of in recent years. It has stirred a lot of memories and feelings inside of me that I have either chosen to put aside or suppress entirely. This review is going to get personal. I never get personal. Some of the closest people to me only know vague details of my upbringing, it’s something that while I acknowledge had a substantial part in forming who I am as a person, I choose not to dwell on or use it as either a crutch or some kind of ‘I overcame’ type story. It’s just my life...

FILMFRAK Interview Special: IN SATURN’S RINGS Starring Director Stephen van Vuuren

FilmFrak’s Adam & Jon both share not only an obsession with cinema but also a passion for science and astronomy. The chance to view the technological wonder that is this new documentary IN SATURN’S RINGS and interview its Director Stephen Van Vuuren was a highlight of the job.

As you will see from the answers below Stephen is an educated and thoughtful filmmaker, musician and photographer who has, to quote the official website: “directed, produced and/or shot over twenty feature and short narrative, documentary, experimental and animation films that have screened at numerous festivals and in cyberspace”

We hope you glean as much from this interview as we did doing it and that you all make sure to ...

Harry Dean Stanton and Kris Kristofferson

“He’s a poet, he’s a picker
He’s a prophet, he’s a pusher
He’s a pilgrim and a preacher, and a problem when he’s stoned.
He’s a walkin’ contradiction, partly truth and partly fiction,
Takin’ ev’ry wrong direction on his lonely way back home.”Kris Kristofferson

HARRY DEAN STANTON: PARTLY FICTION doesn’t purport to be a biographical documentary and instead aims higher glimpsing a multi-talented enigma on his own fraking terms.

Recognizable but nameless to the general public, a naturalistic, committed god among actors to those who love him,  Kentucky  born Harry Dean Stanton has appeared...

Top 13 Fraking Favourite Films of 2013

stoker2

I FRAKED UP!: Normally I would be speaking in absolutes, stating a subjective opinion as though it were fact. Confident in the knowledge I had seen all the ‘important’ films of the previous year and possessed an informed overview of the entire cinematic spectrum. This year I have to declare my ignorance. To put it in other words, amongst numerous titles, I haven’t seen GRAVITY, 12 YEARS A SLAVE, WOLF OF WALL STREET, HER, AMERICAN HUSTLE or INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS, six films that seem to be atop many people’s list for ‘film of the year.’ So there it is, glaring omissions in screening aside, here are my 13 fraking favourite  films of the 2013. (In Alphabetical order only)

FilmFrak Marquee

ONSREEN: “SATURDAY 11.38PM

Outside a quixotically maintained cinema. The kind that boasts midnight screenings of CHARLEY VARRICK, KISS ME DEADLY and NIGHT OF THE HUNTER. ~Features Takeshi Miike and Nicolas Refn-Winding in the coming attractions, still serves beer and is laced with the faint aroma of ganja. ~

The movie house marquee flashes the latest releases, a Saturday matinee and tonight’s after dark double bill LE SAMOURAI & LEON: The PROFESSIONAL.

Under the pulsing neon FRAKER1 and FRAKER2 come into view. FRAKER1 is in his early 30’s. Tall with the look of a young Jeff Goldblum he struts like a scruffy lookin’ herder of some fantastical creature. ~FRAKER2, 41, walks with a slight limp out of habit and reminds of John Cazale.

The film-geek duo purchase tickets and en...
