Adam & Jon’s Frakking Favourite Films of 2017

2017 saw us Frakkers hit a groove in our second year of recording the show. Our simple vision of sharing a hyperactive passion for films in an unedited freestyle chat expanded beyond our own insular desires.

Thanks to unforeseen listeners who liked our “enthusiasm” and reached out this year we had the honor of interviewing a treasure trove of talent. From impossible realities like cult master Larry Cohen to martial arts legends of our VHS obsessed childhoods like Don ‘The Dragon” Wilson and Cynthia Rothrock. Upcoming head kickers and stunt daredevils like Brahim Achabbakhe to ignore the odds creators who forge their own destiny like Jino Kang...

A RECKONING FilmFrak Podcast Special: Starring Andrew David Barker

FilmFrak moves into the future with our premiere Skype Video Podcast Interview.

This interview special we are joined from across the pond by the talented Author, Screenwriter and Director Andrew David Barker.

It was an absolute pleasure having a natter to the filmmaker of the lost 2011 work A RECKONING (Discussed on Episode 19 of the FilmFrak podcast). A gifted cinephile excited about craft, interpretation and all that film can achieve, we talk about realizing your artistic vision only to lose out on the industry commerce side…but this is no tale of woe, it’s about working hard for your dreams and following your inspiration to a life of creation.

STAR WARS: Episode VIII The Last Jedi (2017)

STAR WARS: Episode VIII The Last Jedi

Directed by: Rian Johnson
Starring: Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac, John Boyega, Laura Dern, Benicio Del Toro

It’s not flawless and it does stumbles at times but Rian Johnson succeeds in showing that despite the limitations there is still room for imaginative artistic vision in the primary narrative of the STAR WARS universe. For me there is no question THE LAST JEDI is worthy of entering the pantheon and will only get richer on repeat viewings as the newest addition to the annual marathon viewing of all available chapters.

The latest Episode in the Skywalker saga manages to successfully incorporate the essential elements dictated by the previous mythology while not being beholden to them...

FilmFrak Exclusive: A RECKONING Interview with Leslie Simpson

Prepare to enter the artistic consciousness in this email interview with the singular Leslie Simpson. A talented actor whose obsessive performance in the lost film from 2011, A RECKONING displays a daunting commitment to psychological and emotional discovery.

Making his feature debut with Neil Marshall’s ferocious DOG SOLDIERS, Leslie continued to collaborate with the Director on THE DESCENT and DOOMSDAY. Working steadily on short films and TV, this year he wrote, Directed and starred in the surreal horror short HALFWAY HOUSE.

An actor that we will be watching closely. The wry and unfiltered responses we received to our questions in this interview fill us with absolute glee...

Welcome to Film Frak: The Podcast 20

It’s our final FilmFrak Podcast episode for 2017 and it’s an epic. Our biggest show ever with 19 titles to enthusiastically gush, puke or shrug at while tactfully and sometimes not so artfully navigating spoilers.

It’s been a stellar year for FilmFrak. Jon and I want to thank all our listeners. Every. Single. One. You make it all possible rewarding us with your support. No audience. No show. It’s that simple. Well maybe that’s not completely true. We do love the sound of our own voices.,,,anyway, thank you.

We’re excited for you to all join us again in late January when we return with our Frakking Favourites of 2...

FilmFrak_Banner_Episode_19

Welcome to FilmFrak Podcast 19.

October arrived with an abundance of must-see titles but many were limited release only and didn’t make it to our eyeballs yet. Priorities skewed as the frakkers followed the siren call of Horrortober with Jon consuming 27 horror movies and Adam managing 22. (You can check out our Halloween Horror recommendations here) Thankfully  it was a month of quality over quantity and what we did catch offers much to discuss.

This episode FilmFrak’s Jon and Adam talk:

  • THOR: RAGNAROK
  • BRAWL IN CELL BLOCK 99
  • JAWBONE
  • AFTERMATH
  • SUBURBICON
  • 1922

We also include a compendium review for the 2011 Underground existential last man on Earth indie A RECKONING to accompany our upcoming interview with ...

FilmFrak’s 20 Great Horror Films for Halloween

It’s Halloween and that means most of us horror fiends are staying up beyond the midnight hour with our unblinking eyeballs weeping blood in a motion picture induced haemolacriao. The juicy marrow of fear, frights and fun that the genre can offer feeding some sick desire for visceral voyeurism and boundary violation.

Seeking ideas about what to watch on the 31st, Jon and Adam have spewed up a random list of horror favourites that quench the thirst for blood around this time of year. Entertaining and frightening some will make you giggle, some will make you gasp but all have celluloid imagery to scar the psyche.

So it is with little fore-thought, here are 10 great horror movies from each of us...

THE MARTIAL ARTS KID FILMFRAK PODCAST SPECIAL: Starring Cynthia Rothrock

The beautiful, wise and deadly Cynthia Rothrock honors us in conversation as our special guest in another FilmFrak exclusive.

Back in the late 80’s and early 90’s in the days of VHS and Cinemax there was only one kickass female martial arts heroine in the same league as the likes of Van Damme or Seagal and that was the mighty Cynthia Rothrock.

The Five-time undefeated World Karate Champion with a black belt in multiple disciplines began her screen career starring in the Hong Kong actioner YES, MADAME opposite Michelle Yeoh in 1985...
